Bar/Bat Mitzvahs

Q. Will I know who my photographer is?

A. Yes...unless otherwise discussed in advance, Dave will be your photographer.

Q. When will the photos with the Torah be taken?

A. Different Synagogues have different rules about taking pictures on the Sabbath.  In general reform temples will allow photos to be done prior to the actual service.      Conservative & Orthodox temples require that these photos be done during the mid-week prior to the service.

Q. When will the family pictures be taken?

A. The immediate family will usually be taken when the Bimah pictures are taken.  The extended family (Grandparents, Aunts, Uncles & 1st cousins) will normally be taken prior       to the cocktail hour of the reception.  All efforts will be made to assure that taking family pictures will not interfere with your being with your guests.

Q. How long until I can view my proofs?

A. Usually only 2 weeks for the photographic proofs.  Your photographs will also be put online with a personal username and password @ no extra charge.

Q. Is there a charge for retouching?

A. No...normal retouching is included in our print prices (ie. Blemishes, hair, wrinkles etc.).

Q. How long does it take to receive my finished, retouched prints & album(s)?

A. Usually 2 to 3 weeks for prints.  Our bound leather albums take about 3 months.

Q. Are the digital images available for purchase?

A. A low resolution CD is available upon request at no charge.  A high resolution disk will be between $200 & $500.

Q. What kind of camera do you use?

A. Our primary cameras are  Canon 7D’s & 5D’s, which are used by the best event photographers. These cameras produce the best all-around image quality of any pro digital camera.  As important as the cameras themselves, is the quality of the lenses being used.  We use only Canon brand “L” series lenses, which are the finest they make.

Basically, the camera is important.  The type of lenses are more important, but the talent and skill of the photographer is the most important thing to look for when selecting your Bar/Bat Mitzvah  photographer.

Q. How many images do you take during a  Bar/Bat Mitzvah?

A. The total number of images varies.  The number of photographs taken is dependent on the timing of your Bar/Bat Mitzvah, how much time we are given for the formal pictures, the length of the service and the amount of action going on at the reception.  I do not put any limitations on the number of images taken.  Generally, I shoot around 250 to 400 images at a Bar/Bat Mitzvah. .  These images are then color-corrected; some are made into black and white or digitally enhanced.  There are many photographers that shoot  500 to 2000 images at a Bar/Bat Mitzvah…you will find that the best photographers are more concerned with quality rather than quantity.  Rather than taking 1000 images where 50 are useable, we’ll take our normal number and make them all useable.

Q. Are you available for travel?

A. Yes!  Images by David is based in Stamford, Connecticut, but we will be happy to travel.  Please contact us to discuss your travel needs outside the tri state area.
